10. Screen Recorder Robot Lite

This is a very simple application that can be downloaded from the Apple App Store. It will let you select any part of your screen and you can then record it. However, the recording will last for only 200 seconds (that is three minutes and twenty seconds). But there are ways to work around that. You could use video editing tools to join different clips of video together for instance.

9. Apowersoft Screen Recorder

This particular screen recorder is a powerful one. It will not only record your screen but also the audio. The audio will be recorded from your microphone and the system sound. All you need to do is click on the record button, after which you can choose to record in either full-screen or a particular region of your screen or otherwise record using just your webcam. The recordings however, will be limited to three minutes only and they will include a watermark. But the software offers a lot of features to justify these limitations.

8. Monosnap

Droplr used to be free at a time and it offered a host of features. It is now a paid software, so it automatically is useless for this list. However, Monosnap is one application that pretty much comes on par with Droplr. It may even be better. This is because Monosnap is still free to use and it has some amazing features including in-built image editing, screen recording (duh) and the option to upload files to a server of your own (an option which most of the screen recording software do not provide).

7. QuickTime

Macs or basically anything computer device from Apple is equipped with QuickTime. You can use it to record videos. All you need to do is select File, New Movie Recording and voila. It is a fantastic option, of course it does not have a lot of features that the other software offer. However, it will allow you to capture an area of your screen, you can customize the size of the box and everything. Also, if you are planning on working with iMovie, you should not run into problems with the recording format. You may face them if you are using other movie editing software.

6. Copernicus

You can use this application to capture parts of the screen or the entire screen; whatever you fancy. You have access to several features using which you can set the frame rate, and even preview what you have recorded. The only problem with this particular application is that it will not record your audio. Another drawback is that the program can only save the video in a single format.

5. Capture Me

Capture Me is absolutely free to use and will record your Mac screen. The program features a floating capture window using which you can record short videos. You can even scale down the captures to a size you prefer. This handy little software will allow you to save your work as jpeg, tiff, jpeg 2000, png and even giff. Moreover you can use this program to record MPEG-4 movies. Just assure that they are not very long.

4. Jing

This application will provide you with basic screen capture and recording including other great features too. You can also edit your screenshots with text boxes and highlight certain areas of the screen. This comes in handy especially when you are recording for tutorials. You can even provide captions in your screenshots and finally share the video using whatever way you prefer. The only drawback is that the videos are limited to five minutes only but we are sure you can work around that one. Also, there are other recorders which offer longer recordings if you are looking to save yourself the trouble.

3. iShowU HD

This is a free application which works right from the start. The program was also recently updated to allow for 3D recording. This required higher speeds which this application was later equipped with. As the name states, you can also choose to record in HD. The user-interface of this application was recently revamped as well. It can also capture sound and is integrated with Final Cut Pro for your convenience.

2. QuickCast

This particular application will let you record and share clips very quickly. The only problem is that the clips need to be shorter than or equal to three minutes. You can use your external audio for sound too and the built-in camera for video. You can share your recordings and all of them will, be default, be stored in your QuickCast account. This allows for easily sharing any recording at another time. The only option this app offers is the ability to control what part of the screen are recorded.

This is a screencasting software which supports Mac screen recording and records both sound and video. It can also record directly from 油Tube or other online video streaming websites. The recording area can be clicked and dragged in order to specify the portion of the screen to record.
